Women influencing gaming

Last week, I was at a really interesting exhibit at the Technical Musuem in Stockholm on the development of the Swedish computer game industry (this is an exhibit I can recommend if you go on a guided tour – you get so much more info with a guide.) In the gaming world, the producers, developers and the games themselves are very male dominated and it made me wonder where are all the women in this industry. Indeed, women are making for themselves a strong presence in this business arena. In Sweden, there is an organisation called SuperMarit.se which strengthens the role of women in gaming through conferences, workshops and seminars – (unfortunately the site is under construction – but there is a very interesting article about Swedish women in gaming.) There is also a big organisation called Women in Games International which also has similar goals. This is definitely an area to keep an eye on.
